The National Committee for Geographic Information Systems (NCGIS) organized a workshop on Tuesday 28/01/1437H under the chairmanship of H.E Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibn Ibrahim Al-Saab, GCS president and Chairman of NCGIS. The workshop opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran after which H.E the GCS president addressed the gathering to welcome the Committee members, participants and other attendees. He emphasized the importance of geospatial information in supporting decision making in the creation of development plans and in such other areas as education, healthcare, water and power supply services, communications, road networks, economy, land development, industrial and agricultural development. H.E Dr. Al-Saab explained that part of the NCGIS objectives is to promote cooperation among the agencies participating in the establishment, development and implementation of the national policies on geospatial information, exchanging expertise and sharing experiences among the participating agencies with the ultimate goal of strengthening the effectiveness of national policies. Other objectives include unfolding the methodology for developing the national strategy for geospatial information and highlighting the importance of the role of the participating agencies in establishing the national strategy.
